A successful October in Lille
Donation drives were very fruitful in this city this month thanks to the large number of donors. Donations from other organizations also greatly contributed to this success. As a result, we could distribute more than a hundred blankets and tents, as well as many warm clothes. We are also optimistic about November, as we are negotiating to be able to collect donations in Décathlon stores. We nevertheless lack tents to provide the refugees with shelter, so do not hesitate to contact Utopia 56 Lille to make a donation! ( ).
During October, four young refugees were found places in long-term citizen accommodation and a network of two families was found through the partnership with MSF (Médecins Sans Frontières). There is nevertheless a great need for more host families. If you’re interested or know somebody who might be, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Despite the urgency of the situation, many events are organized in Lille. Every Friday, a time has been set aside for socializing, and the refugees also have the opportunity to take part in various activities every week. This month, football and basketball matches were organized, as well as debates and cultural excursions (a visit to the temporary exhibition at Lille Museum). An international football tournament in partnership with Décathlon Campus also took place.
